Specializing in digital cinema technology with an industry background as both a lighting technician and a camera assistant (an uncommon, yet deliberate, tack), Joe Victorine brings a lively and always lustrous approach to the shaping of light and shadow. His work — often informed by pop culture — extracts the grit and raw human emotion from images that can be solicited only from constant observation, deliberate camera placement, and movement. Joe studied art and film theory at Vassar College, then expanded his expertise through film technology courses at NYU. He has developed extensive knowledge of the industry by working in a vast array of sub-sectors, including documentary and commercial shoots, reality television, feature films, corporate and music videos, fashion, and EPKs. He is as comfortable in the studio, directing grips and electrics with 20Ks and 12x frames, as he is in fast-paced, run-and-gun scenarios on the streets of New York.
Most recently, Joe photographed Booker’s Place: A Mississippi Story, a feature length documentary with Raymond De Felitta, winner of the audience award at Sundance for Two Family House and director of City Island. Joe has also shot content for HBO and an award-winning music video for MTVU. National work for IBM, international work for UPS, and content for Kate Spade, Jimmy Choo, Nikon, Puma, and Citizen’s Bank are also part of his résumé.
Joe has a Red Scarlet and a Red MX camera package outfitted with top-of-the-line accessories. One package is customized for studio and larger location shoots, while the other is tailored for faster paced productions. In addition, he has a fully equipped Canon 7D or 5D MK II kit, perfect for smaller productions and travel.
Joe was born and raised in New York City. He lives in Brooklyn with his wife and cat, and frequently can be found tinkering with his cameras and bicycles, teaching yoga, or climbing rocks when he’s not off on a shoot.
